Submission Guidelines
Lucrezia Magazine is always on the lookout for quality erotica, informative essays, articles, art, and focuses on a variety of themes. To avoid possible disappointment and/or possible frustration, please take time out to read the below guidelines.
Current submission period: Due to the high number of submissions, we are closed until 20 November 2011. For new submissions dated 25 July, please submit these stories after 20 November, otherwise we will return them to you via email.
Overdone Storylines:
We do appreciate the difficulty of a fresh approach. Erotica tends to focus on…the erotic, but we do receive stories that aren’t original, that may read like a scene from a pornographic film.
What we don’t want:
- A quickie/faux flash story that is really just a sex fantasy that is often a poor imitation of the anonymous letters in Nancy Friday’s books, Penthouse hot letters or forum.
- The usual next door neighbor sex story that is never realistic that usually features two women who, after living next door to each other for years suddenly decide to explore each other’s G spots. This falls into the above-mentioned fantasy/hot letter category and has been done to death.
- Warring couple stories. He hates her, she hates him, but they have great make up sex. That may be nice for a personal sex fantasy but it doesn’t often translate to a good short story.
- An ego driven tale that sounds like a long psychoanalytic session. Short stories can seldom fit a character’s early life, parental history and neurosis…and sex and we aren’t fans of literary solipsism.
- NO FLASHBACKS.
- Don’t begin your story with a cliché: husband and wife not getting along, a secret admirer situation, etc.
Fiction
We seek scenery, characterization and dialogue; characters within a story interact with other characters, and stories are required to reflect this. We think erotica: sass, pathos, action, motivation, humor, passion, joie de vivre, and sensuality. There are many more key words we can think of, but these are the essential ingredients we consider foremost. There is no limit to the ambience. In general, stories that engage a reader on a realistic level and have a life on their own. We are not looking for blog entries, or men magazine styled ‘hot letters.’
Confessions/Personal Essay
This section may be thought of as creative non-fiction. Each item is to contain a point or make some statement. Lucrezia isn’t shy, and does not err on the side of political correctness, but please keep in mind that we’re not aroused by libelous content. We won’t tolerate celebrity gossip or innuendo.
Photoessay
This section is for the writer/photographer. You don’t have to be a professional photographer for this section but all the images have to be either of you, taken by you and relate to your inner experience.
Articles/Reviews
A reviewer is required to have intimate knowledge of their topic (displaying their research skills), and consider audience first. Is the topic informative, useful or enlightening? We aren’t looking for ‘lite’ reviews. Due to the abundance of bloggers reviewing adult toys i.e. the Pleasurists site, we aren’t looking for sex toy reviewers or if we choose to publish sex toy reviews, they will be unpaid reviews.
Taboo
We don’t have many taboos here and the taboo section is for legal reasons:
1. In most instances, we don’t accept previously published work. Please email us first.
2. We’ve reverted back to accepting simultaneous submissions.
3. We will not publish work that is steered by sexual violence (mental or physical). ABSOLUTELY NO incest, snuff, violence, bestiality, necrophilia, rape, pedophilia, underage sex, rape fantasy or any stories describing adults engaging in non-consensual sex. ‘Reluctant sex’ still falls under non-consent, and all stories containing reluctant sex scenes will be rejected outright. We’re not a fan of ‘she said no, but meant yes,’ literature. Nor are we into blood or scat. Keep that content for your personal blogs.
4. We’re not looking for BDSM or stories that revolve around a central theme of violence (that usually revolves around character traits rather than story plot).
Submission: word limits, formatting, etc
Please read about word content/counts at the end of this page. No, we’re not going to accept submissions below the minimum. We don’t care how prolific your career is.
Work can be submitted as plain text, pasted on the email or as a Word Document (RTF). Our preferred font size is 11 or 12, and the preferred fonts are Times New Roman and Courier. DO NOT submit in doc.x format as it doesn’t come through. If you want to paste your story on to your email, please paste from a program other than Word, as it doesn’t format well.
If you prefer plain text, please ensure you highlight the beginning and end of sections requiring italics or bold text with appropriate markers: < i > or < b >
Submissions should include the author’s full name, pen name (if desired), contact email address, copyright ownership declaration, word count and a brief synopsis.
***A lengthy biography isn’t necessary, but a brief synopsis is.
Art/Photography
Artists/Photographers are to submit work in JPEG/GIF format with optimal PPI or DPI (minimum 72 pixels per inch). Each image should not exceed 1MB. If the art is photographic, the photographer is required to verify the age of the models. All models within photographic images are required to be over 18 years of age. If you require more information, please consult our art/photography editor. The work selected is up to the artist/photographer. You can submit a small portfolio of the images. Please don’t send us extensive biographies and links to your pages and presume that we have time to go through all your work. We review submissions each day, and don’t have time to inspect endless albums and/or galleries to select something. As far as we are concerned you are the artist and it is up to you to showcase the work you wish to showcase. The only exception to above is during periods where we approach artists/photographers ourselves.
Things to include in your submission: What your work represents (in the sexual/erotic sense) and why the subject interests you, so we can formulate a profile and article, and work with you, to display your work to its fullest advantage. Don’t send an email detailing your publication history, with links or examples. We need actual submissions that reflect a body of work: concepts, ideas, views, etc.
