“I’m not into the idea of two regular gay guys having sex,” my friend said on the Stairmaster next to me. “For me, one of the guys has to be nervous, one of the guys needs to have sort of ‘slipped’ into it,” she explained. I noticed the man on the exercise bike next to her turning off his iPod but leaving his headphones in and staring straight ahead.

“OK, but what is it about two guys?” I asked.

“As a woman, I feel like I’m a receptacle, I’m always the one receiving. I like watching a guy get it, and I don’t just mean bend over boyfriend strap-on stuff, I like watching a guy getting the whole thing and getting a wad shot in or on him,” she replied as the man next to her pedaled faster. “Plus, the men in gay porn are way hotter. They’re all handsome, buff, and well groomed. If you see an actor who’s not well groomed, then you know there’s a ball shaving scene coming up,” she added.

“You need to check out the podcast Gay Porn Talk, it’s a great podcast sponsored by the Netflix of gay porn, Gaycheapporn.com. I came across it researching GLBT podcasts this month,” I said.

“What’s good about it?” she asked.

“Well, these two guys, Evan and Paulie have a very structured show each week. They do a gay-related news story, answer listener questions, review two porn movies, then review one sex toy, one clip of music to fuck to, turn-ons and turn-offs submitted by two listeners, and wrap it up with listener questions and suggestions at the end. Because they’re sponsored they can’t wander too far, they always get everything in under an hour,” I replied.

“How are the reviews?” she asked.

“Good, Evan gives a detailed description of a few scenes so you can get a feel for the production without spoiling the plot,” I joked. My friend started laughing and had to grip the handrails harder for support.
“Then he goes on to describe some of the notable features of each production such as good orgies or lots of no hand cum shots.”

“Sounds good,” she admitted. I noticed the man on the bike next to her wiping his face with a little white towel. “What kinds of sex toys do they review?” she asked.

“Pretty much what you’d expect, butt plugs, cock ring, ball gag sets, kits to make a dildo molded from your own dick…stuff like that,” I said.

“You can make a dildo out of your own dick? Then what? So you can screw yourself with yourself?” she asked, laughing and leaning on the Stairmaster rails again.

“I guess, or you could give it to someone, maybe for a long distance sort of thing,” I suggested. A woman approached the man on the exercise bike and I noticed his wedding ring as we dismounted our Stairmasters.

“What else have you found?” my friend asked as we started our free weight routines.

“I found another gay sex podcast, The Big Gay Sex Show. They are also weekly, but they aren’t sponsored, so the hosts Matt and Weegie can rattle on a bit, most episodes are an hour and a half,” I said, focusing on my form in the mirror.

“Weegie? What sort of name is that?” my friend asked, making eye contact with me in the mirror.

“He’s Norwegian, or of Norwegian heritage. They have great listener letters telling stories, some hot, some horrific. Then they have a feature called ‘cock talk’ where they pose deep philosophical questions to each other like ‘Have you ever thrown up on a guy while blowing him?’” I said.

“Has that ever happen to you?” she interrupted.

“No, I like to work my hand around the base of the penis for extra stimulation and like a stopper. I think it’s hot when a guy pulls my hair a bit and pushes my head down, so I like that stopper there,” I replied. “You?” I asked.

“I’ve come close, believe me,” she said, widening her eyes and nodding her head in mock seriousness.

“Let me tell you, I thought I knew about balls when I started listening to this podcast, but these guys really know about balls. They love balls, the way the hang, how they look, and what to do with them. They also get into some interesting racial issues involved in gay dating such as master/slave role playing and Weegie has a fetish for intergenerational porn. It’s thought provoking stuff.” I said. “And they introduced me to the phrase ‘spunky little cum pig,’ can you imagine a woman wanting to be called a spunky little cum pig under any circumstances?” I asked.

“No,” she agreed, shaking her head.

“Any good lesbian podcasts? I’ve always wondered what sort of porn lesbians watch, do they watch the same skin-flicks as straight men?” she asked.

“You know, I didn’t find any lesbian podcasts dedicated to sex or porn. I found some good podcasts, but no women coming out there and saying ‘this is the porn we watch and this is what we are doing with our dildos.’ I did learn that gay women like tits.” I said.

“Of course they do,” she replied, pushing out her chest while doing her biceps curls.

“I know, I just never thought about it. There are a few good general interest podcasts such as Dykedrama, two friends on opposite coasts talking about current events and the theme of the show, like lesbians making the decision to have artificial insemination as a couple or alone. The last show was on their relationships with their fathers. They posted the topic on their web site ahead of time and other women wrote in with their experiences going from a tomboy to grown up lesbian woman. It was a really interesting episode once they got done talking about reality TV at the start of the show. I’d probably find that part more interesting if I watched any of the shows they’re talking about.” I said.

“Do they talk about the Showtime drama about lesbians, The L Word ?” my friend asked.

“Yes, they talk about The L Word a little bit. Showtime puts up a good podcast of interviews with the creators and actors of the show, but if you are into The L Word then you’ve got to check out the fan podcast The Planet. The hostesses Elka and KC are hilarious. I’ve never watched the show and I enjoyed their character analyses and plot predictions. They love the boobies, they have boobie counts for each episode and got into a debate about how tits should float in a pool. Given how into boobies they are, maybe lesbians do like the girl on girl action in skin flicks, but I wonder if it looks all fake to them somehow?” I asked.

“Right, maybe skin-flicks have straight girls who don’t really know how to eat pussy. Most are probably shot with straight men in mind, so the emotional tension probably isn’t right for lesbians,” she agreed.

“I also found a great comedy show from a lesbian couple, Roxanne and Virginia, riffing on a topic like dating red flags or break up etiquette for half and hour or so called 2 Homos. I don’t know if they rehearse ahead of time, but it comes out sounding well-timed with no silences or awkward tangents, yet natural. Like good improv comedy. I wish they would do a show about sex toys, I bet it’d be hysterical.” I said.

“OK, so you’ve got the ‘G’ and the ‘L’ covered, what about the ‘B’ and the ‘T’?” she asked as we put our weights away and walked to the stretching area.

“Bisexuality was tough,” I said as we sat down on our mats and removed our shoes and socks. “I only found one specifically bisexual podcast and it was hosted by the two most boring bisexual people in the world complaining about their jobs and problems they were having with their iPhones.”

“That’s disappointing,” my friend said, looking across the stretching area to a woman doing yoga. “I wish I could bend my body around like that,” she said, nodding to a woman who had tied her body into a graceful knot on the floor. I looked from the woman to a middle-aged man standing next to her starting at her. He continued to stare at intently her as she moved through several more poses. My friend and I remained silent, watching him watch her.

“He’s so creepy,” I said to my friend and she nodded. “Anyway,” I said, stretching my legs out in front of me, “I’m hoping to get more bisexual stuff when I do swinging or polyamory podcasts. As for the transsexuals, I have to admit, I didn’t know much about transsexuality and gender dysphoria before I started my research. Homosexuality doesn’t take much imagination to understand. I’m a chick, I like dick. Maybe some guy likes dick too, I can understand that because I think dick is great. Maybe some other woman doesn’t like dick, she likes titties and pussy. OK, that’s understandable too. Some people like both, more fun for them. But the idea of a person not identifying with their assigned gender, what does that really mean?” I asked rhetorically.

“I think it’s about looking in the mirror and thinking to yourself ‘that isn’t me’ when you see your reflection,” my friend replied, kicking her feet over her head into the yoga “plow” position. “Every time I masturbate I think about two men having sex, so I’m like a gay man trapped in a woman’s body,” she added.

“OK, that helps,” I replied. “The first podcast I checked out, the Radical Guy podcast, also really helped me with my ideas about trans people. It’s hosted by a female to male trans man, Ethan St. Pierre. He interviews leading researchers, writers, and political advocates in the transgender community, he usually keeps the show around an hour. The way he and his guests talk about the medical necessity of relieving the stress of gender dysphoria was really fascinating. There are a also few male to female trans podcasts, Susan Moses of Talking Tranny, Rebecca Marie Nay of Tranny Wreck Radio, Jessica Bowers of Pragmatic Heretic Show, as well as Milla and Jayna at Trans-ponder who discuss their personal experiences and activism. Susan Moses has done some porn and defiantly talks the most about sexual issues. She’s married, Prozac has destroyed her libido, and she’s experiencing some pain with intercourse,” I said.

“Sounds like a regular woman to me,” my friend cut in.

“I know right?” I answered, nodding affirmatively as we got up to go. “There’s just one more podcast I really liked, Myne Myc,” I told her in the locker room. “The host, Renair Amin interviews a variety of minority GLBT writers and artists. Renair does a great job with her interviews, very professional. Her guests are articulate and well-spoken, but not exactly sexual, more informative stuff unless it’s a specifically erotic artist.

“Well, I’d better get home and start downloading,” my friend joked on the way to the parking lot.

“Yeah, there’ll be a quiz next week,” I said we hugged and walked to our separate cars.
