Kaiser Karl Goes Fishing PDF Print E-mail

Karl Lagerfeld is one of Europe's most influential designers, a designer that Victoria Beckham would drop everything (and every other designer) for if he chose her as his muse. He is a couturier, furrier, photographer, and renowned for saving the House of Chanel. He is also known for provoking Vogue's Anna Wintour, when he chose Italian adult star Moana Pozzi (and an array of strippers) to model his black and white Fendi collection in the 1990's.

Lagerfeld's resume is extensive. He began working at Pierre Balmain in 1955 at the age of 22, before moving to Jean Patou where he worked for five years. After leaving Patou, he launched a freelance design career that saw him design for Chloe, Mario Valentino, Repetto and a supermarket chain – Monoprix. In 1972 he began working for Fendi, designing fur, accessories and clothes.

In 1983, Lagerfeld was appointed to the role of artistic director at the House of Chanel. Under Karl, traditional Chanel clothing became reinvented, with shorter cuts and vivid design. The perfume line was expanded with new fragrances such as Coco, Allure, Allure Homme, and a new skincare line was developed.

Today, Chanel comes fully equipped. From fashion to fine jewelry and watches, Lagerfeld doesn't stop. My guess is that Chanel will also take a detour into the territory of luggage, but the most recent addition to Chanel is a surprise.

Chanel devotees can now add chic angling to their collection, with a fly fishing rod.

According to the Guardian:

"For a mere £9,170 the ponciest angler on the planet can kit himself out with a Chanel rod and a set of meticulously tied, monochrome Chanel flies, complete with the famous "double C" logo on the gossamer wings, presented in a rather fetching, quilted black leather box."

The fishing rod costs more than the Chanel skis.

The price tag alone is enough to make the ordinary among us drop from the shock, but Lagerfeld has remained loyal to Coco Chanel. Coco was not a sit at home dainty flower. She was outdoorsy, sporty and adventurous - and she wasn’t a stranger to the sport of fishing.
